MASTER THE MAJOR SCALE

- CRL METHOD -

The Major Scale is the mother of all scales

Mastering the Major Scale is a smart choice. By doing so, you’ll have the best foundation to master, in the future, the major scale modes (Dorian, Locrian, etc.).

Forget about those typical 5 positions of the Major Scale. They’ll just limit yourself. The Major Scale deserves a deeper dive into it.

Shut up,
I just want to improvise

I know. You want to play the modes and also every scale in the universe. And on top of that, you want to know how to use them to compose your melodies and improvise like Coltrane.

Hold on.

Do you know how many scales are out there? And how many ways there are to play each of those scales on the guitar? Let me tell you: a lot. Too many to memorize and master every form of each one.

There’s a smarter way to learn scales.

That's why I created the CRL Method

Alright, so first we need to master the Major Scale. But how do you do that?

Well, it turns out it’s not as hard or as easy as it seems. If you just want to know how to play the Major Scale more or less, check out any YouTube tutorial. Then come back when you’re ready to learn more.

Mastery is a whole different level. And that’s where this course comes in.

The CRL Method is the best solution I’ve developed to fully master the Major Scale. It’s both simple and powerful. But don’t get it twisted—it requires practice and discipline.

The idea is simple: you only need to learn 3 directions in one octave, and then know how to combine them.

I’ll show you how to move and combine basic patterns in various ways to discover all the reasonable possibilities of playing a Major Scale on the guitar.

Who am I

My name is Joan Ballester, and I was trained by some of the world’s elite classical guitarists in Spain—the birthplace of classical guitar.

I’ve had the privilege of learning from renowned masters like Fernando Espí, Marco Smaili, and Nacho Rodes. I’ve also been fortunate to personally meet some of the greatest, including David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, and Ricardo Gallén.

I hold a degree from the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Alicante and a Master’s in Music Research from the UNIR University.

But none of that matters.

Here’s a personal secret: I got tired of spanish official educational institutions. They’re rotten with bureaucracy, politicians, and outdated curricula.

That’s when I decided to take a break from classical guitar and dive into exploring other styles and approaches. Along the way, I developed new methods for studying scales, which led to the creation of the CRL Method.

Now, I’m here on the internet with a mission—to distill all my guitar knowledge, refine it with my own insights, and share it with you in the most effective way possible.

If you want to learn anything related to the guitar, keep an eye on the Guitacademy project. For now, make sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel here.

What you'll find in the course

What you'll find in the course

First of all, you’ll receive a warm welcome. Because you deserve it. Let’s be polite.

The Major Scale to the center is the first of the three basic patterns of the CRL method. Here, you will begin to build the foundation upon which you will ensure mastery of the scale.

We move on to the next fundamental step: the Major Scale to the right. This is the second basic pattern, and here you’ll need to stretch your fingers a bit, just like Russian ballerinas from the Bolshoi Theatre!

Here, you will have finally laid your foundation. If you’ve been a good student, the ground will be perfectly prepared for what comes next: the path to mastering the most important scale in the universe.

Now we’re talking. This is where things start to get interesting. Do you know what we’re going to do here? We’re going to cook. We’ll mix a little bit of scale in one direction, a little bit in the other, and voilà! A few delicious, two-octave recipes in all their variety.

You see, the guitar can be a bit picky. It turns out it also likes the 5th string for playing two octaves. But the 4th string? Nope, it’s not a fan of that one.

Do you know Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story? Well, he has no idea. We’re the ones truly going to infinity. Get ready for the frets on your guitar to start trembling because you won’t leave a single one untouched!

The difference between an expert and an amateur is that the expert masters even the smallest details. I want you to become an expert on the Major Scale because it will make you happier with your instrument. And hey, why not? You’ll also be able to boast about knowing more about this scale than most professional guitarists. At the very least, more than your friend who plays guitar.

Doubts?

Take a look at this list of frequently asked questions. Your question may already be answered here.

No. The Major Scale is the same on all guitars. I will explain everything using an acoustic guitar, but you can do the same with any guitar you use.

No. You can take this course whether you’re just starting out or already have some guitar knowledge. It’s 100% practical. Just keep in mind that if you’re a complete beginner, it might be a bit more challenging at first. That’s normal, and it’s okay—your fingers just aren’t used to it yet. Keep practicing, don’t give up, and you’ll get there.

However, it’s recommended that you know the notes on the guitar. It’s not mandatory, but if you don’t know them, you won’t be able to tell whether you’re playing the C Major scale or the B-flat Major scale.

Once the payment is made, you will receive an email with your access credentials and a link to the platform where the course is hosted.

You’ll have access forever. It’s lifetime access, and you can review the course as many times as you need. If a meteor hits or World War III breaks out and we’re all wiped out, then maybe you’ll lose access. But by then, that’s probably the last thing we’ll be worrying about, right?
